Reflecting on the thirty-eighth week
Things I’ve loved:
- the arrival of summer
- barbecues in London Fields
- endless summer nights and park life.
Things that surprised me:
- getting sun burnt
- neighbourhoodliness
- how much I miss my homies when they’re not around.
Things that make me feel far from home:
- cling wrap boxes without little metal teeth
- not being able to head to the beach in hot weather
- being surrounded by union jacks as Jubilee fever takes hold.
Things I want to do this week:
- Dinner
- carve out some time for some very important Australian visitors
- complete my home counties collection by visiting Wales.

Overheard in the coffee queue
(Australian) barista:So where are you from?(Australian) customer:Australia.B:Really?C:Last time I checked.B:I would have said you were from New Zealand. Where are you from in Australia?C:I get that a bit. I'm from Melbourne.B:No way! I'm from Melbourne too. You don't even sound Australian.C:Wait. You mean I don't have a Melbourne accent. I definitely sound Australian.B:Not really. Especially when you don't look Australian.(Kiwi) barista:You definitely look like one of us.C:Oh, there's nothing wrong with looking like a kiwi, but I assure you I'm Australian. *gets out Victorian Driver's Licence* -
